Combined with a Bachelor of Journalism attained in 2004, Bernadette's unique skillset led her to a career in stenography. She completed her studies with the National College of Court Reporting in 2009 whilst working as a live and offline television captioner in Brisbane. She was based at the ABC and Channel 9 studios for much of this time.

Bernadette uses stenographic theory to "write" (type in chord-like shapes) on a shorthand machine at speeds of 250+ words per minute with 99.9% accuracy. Bernadette is proud to be a practitioner of the art of stenography and promotes the technical skill, training and human intelligence required to achieve the best captions you will ever see.

She has captioned national/international news bulletins and rolling coverage of world events, sporting competitions, conferences, virtual/hybrid events, scientific conferences, awards ceremonies, forums, information seminars, parliamentary proceedings, meetings, remembrance services, expos, musical and theatre performances, and much more.

Bernadette is proud to be a member of the National Court Reporters Association (NCRA) of the USA. No such association currently exists in Australia. She has completed stenography examinations to gain the respected certifications of:

  • Registered Professional Reporter (RPR)
  • Certified Realtime Captioner (CRC)

These designations are maintained through the fulfilment of continuing education requirements and by remaining an NCRA member in good standing, ensuring Bernadette maintains the highest level of professionalism and knowledge in the industry.
